The safest AI permission system is not “manual everything,” and it is not “trust the model.” It is a mixed model based on consequence.
This article is part of Nyansa Hub’s Amazon Seller AI Agent series, built for sellers who want useful AI without handing over unrestricted authority.
AUTOMATIC
Use automatic authority for bounded, read-only work that saves time without changing the business: read inventory, read pricing, summarize account health, analyze ad performance, scan listing issues.
Automatic does not mean unlogged. Keep narrow targets, rate limits and audit records.
ASK
Use explicit owner approval for actions with financial, customer-facing or operational consequences: pricing, listing edits, coupons/promotions, PPC bids/budgets, fulfillment, refunds and bulk feeds.
A good approval is specific. Show exact target, old/new value, economics where relevant, reason, source, expiry and limits. Bind it to the payload and make it single-use.
NEVER
Some capabilities should not be tools available to the agent at all: reveal credentials, disable safeguards, delete audit history, grant itself approval, run unrestricted shell from an Amazon request, initiate bank transfers or post bookkeeping entries.
This is a key design difference. Telling a model “never reveal credentials” is weaker than never exposing a credential-reveal capability.
Unknown means deny
As the system grows, new tools appear. A permission system should fail closed. If a capability has not been classified, it gets no authority until a human deliberately adds it.
That is how you get the benefits of automation without turning every AI mistake into a business action.
