How to Keep Your Amazon AI Agent Private and Local

“Local AI” is often used as if it means one thing. For a seller, there are at least three layers to think about: where the model runs, where the Amazon connector runs and where your private business context is stored.

This article is part of Nyansa Hub’s Amazon Seller AI Agent series, built for sellers who want useful AI without handing over unrestricted authority.

Hosted assistant + hosted connector

This is convenient. A provider handles the integration. Your prompts/context and seller data may pass through provider systems according to their terms.

Hosted model + local connector/control layer

Amazon credentials stay on your machine/control system. You choose what context is sent to the model. The hosted model provider still processes whatever you include in the prompt.

Local model + local connector/control layer

Prompts, seller-private context, credentials and execution logic can remain on your computer except for the data/API calls deliberately sent to Amazon. This is the most local architecture, with the most setup/maintenance responsibility.

Local does not mean Amazon sees nothing

If the system asks Amazon for inventory or submits an approved Amazon action, Amazon receives that request. The privacy gain is avoiding unnecessary third parties and keeping off-Amazon information such as supplier costs, SOPs, margin floors and planning data local.

Credentials should not be model context

Even with a local model, credentials belong in the authentication/connector layer, not in prompts. The model should ask a narrow tool to do a permitted operation. It does not need the raw token.

Local-first is not about fear. It is about reducing the number of systems that need sensitive business context and making your data path explicit.

Local-first still needs durable, portable context

Keeping a connector or model local does not automatically solve context bloat or vendor dependence. Store durable project state in formats you control, retrieve changing Amazon data when needed, and avoid making one model's conversation history the only home for your operating knowledge.

Where to go next

The Coding Build Kit includes a local control plane and optional Ollama adapter. The Playbook compares the architecture trade-offs before you choose.

Put this into practice
