Token-Efficient Agent Context Coding Build Kit
Turn context-budget rules into runnable local enforcement instead of relying on the agent to remember “read less.”
The Token-Efficient Agent Context Coding Build Kit is a local Node.js starter for technical operators who want to enforce bounded reads, preserve durable project state, archive history safely, and verify that the guardrail itself is actually running.
What’s included
- Vendor-neutral context-budget core logic
- Reference numeric budget policy with tunable thresholds
- Large-file detection by naming convention and line-count fallback
- Approval-style intervention before oversized reads
- One-large-history-per-command control
- Claude Code
PreToolUsereference adapter - Newest-first durable project-state templates
- Archive-with-pointer logic instead of deleting history
- Session closeout generator for compact portable handoffs
- Runtime health-check script
- Automated tests for bounded reads, oversized reads, multi-file reads, malformed input, UTF-8 BOM handling, archive behavior, and handoff generation
- Invented local demo project with no live credentials or marketplace data
Why the guardrail needs its own test
A fail-open hook can silently stop enforcing while the main tool call still succeeds. The included health-check pattern exists because “nothing broke” is not proof that the safeguard ran.
The sample is deliberately local and mock-first. It makes no marketplace or AI-provider API calls and ships with no credentials.
Important implementation boundary
Installing a hook into a real coding-agent runtime, changing global or project agent settings, granting broader filesystem access, adding credentials, connecting production repositories, or activating live workflows are separate operator-controlled steps.
Use the right Lean Context resource
If you do not need code, use the Lean AI Context Playbook for the method or the AI Context & State Management Toolkit for recurring operations.
Use this Coding Build Kit when you want the context-budget behavior implemented technically. If your agent can also write, send, spend, delete, or change live ecommerce systems, pair it with the Safe Ecommerce Automation Coding Build Kit for action-safety controls. For the full context family, use the Lean AI Operations Bundle.
